• WHAT will be done
Description:
Sewing machines are being collected at 4 Community recycling sites across ABC district in partnership with tools for solidarity.
A reuse pop up donation event is planned for Armagh, Banbridge, Portadown & Lurgan Recycling Centres.
In support of Charity “Tools For Solidarity” based in Belfast, community groups and members of the public will be encouraged to drop off sewing machines at the recycling Centres.
Items will be collected via the nominated Recycling Centres in site Containers.
Tools for solidarity is a not for profit organisation / registered charity in Belfast.
The charity collects unwanted sewing machines for reuse repair and spare parts to support a skills programme delivered to people in Tanzania, Africa.
The intention of the project is to create a lasting legacy to enable a self-reliant economy while improving living standards.
Additionally the charity skills local and international volunteers, as well as supporting mental health groups locally.
- To date the project has provided 6000 sewing machines to projects to support women in employment, tailors, and disabled adults, providing income, training hubs.
