Mais Olhos do que Barriga / More eyes than stomach
• WHAT will be done
Description:
One of the global challenges is to reduce food waste. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, one-third of all food produced in the world is wasted. With the mission of decreasing the amount of wasted food in the Dining Area of MAR Shopping Algarve, visitors have access to free take-away containers, allowing them to take home leftovers in a convenient way and consequently prevent food waste. With this project, Meeting Place aims to raise awareness about reducing food waste and reinforce the commitment to sustainability and support for the local community.
The objective of this sustainability initiative is to reduce food waste by providing Meeting Place customers with the opportunity to take home any leftovers or excess from their meals purchased at the Food Court stores. The provided boxes, resistant to oils and fats, are both biodegradable and recyclable. The goal of this initiative is to prevent food waste, raise awareness, move towards zero waste, and use environmentally friendly materials.
Two sizes of containers are offered – 780ml and 1350ml. The average monthly consumption/utilization is as follows:
- 2500 units of 780ml
- 400 units of 1350ml
