Reduce food waste from farming to fork effectively

The history of the partnership between LIPOR and DARiACORDAR began in 2016, strengthening in 2017, when the Zero Desperdício Network expanded to the LIPOR municipalities, under the “Partnerships for the Impact” program of Portugal 2020.

The main objective was to increase efficiency in the collection and distribution of food surpluses, contributing at the same time to reducing food insecurity for many families and avoiding food waste (in a circular economy approach), giving a new opportunity to food that would otherwise be lost. would constitute a waste.

This partnership also integrated the Social Inclusion and Employment Operational Program, financed by the European Social Fund and Portugal 2020, which has produced very promising and positive results.

Recognizing the importance and enormous need to combat waste in all its forms, especially food waste, this partnership has been renewed every year. The month of November 2023 marks another year of renewal of this sustainability commitment.

This partnership has achieved excellent environmental, social, and economic impacts since the first second:

– Over 70 partners in LIPOR territories
– Over 2.1 million meals recovered
– Over 1 thousand tons of food waste avoided
– Over 4.5 thousand tons of CO2 emissions avoided
– Over 120 thousand beneficiaries supported
– Over 48 thousand families supported
– Over 5 Million Euros were generated with the circular economy model.

This action is continuous, with the collection every day of thousands of meals and food products that would otherwise be wasted.

This partnership between LIPOR and DARiACORDAR focuses its entire strategy on innovation as a key to sustainability, through the development of a unique smart data platform, support for the development of new management models and sustainability solutions with companies, and partnership with universities and civil society.
