One of the global challenges is to reduce food waste. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, one-third of all the food produced in the world is wasted.

With the mission of reducing the amount of unutilized food in the MAR Shopping Matosinhos Food Court, visitors are provided with free take-away containers, which allow them to take home the leftovers from their meal in a convenient manner, thus helping to prevent food waste.

Through this project, the Meeting Place aims to raise awareness about food waste reduction and strengthen its commitment to sustainability and support for the local community.

It is estimated that Meeting Place visitors use 6,000 boxes per year.
