WEEEWe are here.
• WHAT will be done
Description:
We chose an iconic, yet sensitive title for our campaign that clearly reflects the message of saving value and circularity by rethinking one of the defining sentences from the Terminator films, both because of the attention-grabbing and the theme of our campaign.
Electrical and electronic devices are an integral part of our lives, so it is important that everyone receives extensive information about the environmental value of these products, what they are made of, how they can be repaired, what to look for when purchasing a device, and if they no longer need it, they know how and where they can be repurposed.
Our WEEEssatér is a funny, light-hearted campaign and educational program consisting of 21st century elements, still relying on ambient marketing. Our goal is to encourage people to think “out of the box” so that they can see beyond everyday waste.
The backbone of our campaign is the unique rethinking and upcycling of electronic products that are no longer functional and cannot be repaired economically, during which we make unique lamps from these products, which we also present in the form of a workshop. This closely fits our activity of producing lamps from car parts that are already in operation today. During our campaign, everyone can learn about the “secret life” of electronic waste, which will be complemented by numerous action elements such as a moving exhibition, educational roadshow, webinar, workshop, podcast, mobile showroom, and film screening, primarily focusing on prevention and aiming to popularize it.
ReLight Mobile Exhibition: a unique installation made of a series of decorative elements and lamps made by our colleague from broken devices that are no longer usable in their original function, which we will place in the city’s more central facilities and shops with the intention of drawing attention to “turning on the light”. Showing people that there is always an opportunity to rethink our waste, upcycling can always help us.
The last charge, or don’t gamble: a campaign on the correct handling of batteries, accumulators, and especially lithium batteries. Since this is a rapidly growing and most often incorrectly collected material stream, it is very important to remind people that this is a particularly hazardous waste that requires serious attention and to draw attention to the risks and damage it can cause during waste management.
Mobile showroom: school campaign on the correct handling of electronic waste. A vehicle converted from the inside with playful tasks and educational panels. During the European Waste Reduction Week, we go to different schools every school day, where we welcome the children as class teachers.
Connecting collecting: we are launching a small electronics, mainly phones, battery collection campaign, which we link with a prize draw to increase reach. The campaign aims to direct electronic waste to the right place and draws attention to the fact that waste yards provide an excellent opportunity for the public to hand it over.
As part of the campaign, we are also trying to find a new life for a neglected, yet significantly produced waste stream, which is phone case waste.
We sort through the collected cases and sell the part that is still suitable for further use, for example, the previous owner got tired of them. During Waste Reduction Week, we advertise TokTuri at the Miskolc Reuse Center so that they can find a new owner. We use the cases that are less suitable for reuse for artistic purposes. We would like to auction off the completed work for charity.
Planet WEEE: we are launching a roadshow in the city with the astonishing power of ambient marketing, by transforming an old, spherical climbing frame we have created Planet WEEE, which is not only a spectacular and attention-grabbing element, but also a one-person training room, in which educational panels, games and an audio guide inform those interested about the most important and interesting information related to electronic waste.
Understandable Consumer Protection Webinar: anyone can join our online event for free. The topic is extremely important to them because we believe that people need useful and understandable information about their consumer protection, warranty and liability rights and options regarding their electrical and electronic devices.
ElektroMovieNight: In an authentic environment, MiReHu is holding a cinema night in an industrial hall on its premises, which can be attended after prior registration, completely free of charge. The film to be screened is Welcome to Sodom , which presents the life of the world’s largest electronic waste landfill. On the movie night, the film screening will be followed by a joint discussion, where we will evaluate the problems and dramatic situation presented by the film together with the participants.
ElektriART Workshop: MiReHu is holding a demonstration workshop for colleagues and registered visitors at its central location, where design products are made from electrical devices that can no longer be repaired. Here too, keeping out-of-the-box thinking in mind, we inspire people not to let the trash be the final solution. You don’t always have to choose the easier way.
Stress-free conversations Podcast: MiReHu’s own podcast series will include an episode focusing on good practices related to electronic waste during the EWWR. The topic will include production planning, consumer interests, and recyclability. On this occasion, MiReHu’s Talpalatnyi waste management podcast will also host an expert guest for the first time.
In addition to our programs that provide direct personal access, we are also conducting an intensive national campaign on several topics in local media and on social platforms.
