As part of the European Waste Reduction Week, our institution, the MIÓVI Leszih Andor Street Member Kindergarten, is organizing a two-day community litter collection campaign entitled “Garbage Commando – Green Hearts in Action”. The aim of the program is to strengthen the environmentally conscious attitude of children, parents and grandparents, and to preserve the cleanliness of the living environment through joint activities. The waste collection is carried out in the immediate vicinity of the kindergarten, by cleaning Leszih Andor Street, the pedestrian paths leading to the Avasi Lookout Tower, and the green areas surrounding the kindergarten. On the first day, three groups participate in the program, and on the second day, three more groups participate, in each case with the active involvement of parents and grandparents. The activity is organized on a playful, experiential pedagogical basis, during which children experience that they can contribute to protecting the environment with their small steps. Before the action, we have a joint discussion about waste types, their selective collection and the importance of protecting nature.
During the garbage collection, we use protective gloves, visibility vests, closed bags and selective collection bags, which we place with the help of MIREHU Nonprofit Kft. after the action. The safe implementation is supervised by kindergarten teachers, nannies and volunteer parents and grandparents. We plan shorter, phased collection according to the age of the children, with rest periods and joint rewards.
At the end of the program, we close the activity by sorting the collected waste and having a joint evaluation discussion, where the children’s feedback is also included. Photo documentation and a poster are also made about the event, which we present in the kindergarten’s communal spaces and on its website. The campaign closely aligns with the approach of our Evergreen Kindergarten and Green Heart program, promoting the goals of sustainability education, community responsibility, and environmental awareness.
