The Institutional E-Waste Cycle
• WHAT will be done
Description:
Project Name: Turn on the Value, Switch off the Waste: The Institutional E-Waste Cycle
Implementing Authority:Pendik Municipality, Environmental Protection and Control Department
Focus Theme: Electronic Waste (E-Waste), Reuse Preparation, and Prevention
The project aims to establish a circular and resource-efficient model for managing electronic waste within Pendik Municipality. It treats e-waste as a valuable institutional resource, built upon two main actions:
1.Reuse Preparation (Component Recovery): Recovery of working and reusable components (RAM, hard drives, etc.) from old computers collected from citizens.
2.Waste Prevention (Gradual Shift System): Maximizing the total lifespan of institutional electronic devices (PCs, monitors) by gradually shifting them from high-use to less-intensive workload departments.
Through this approach, the municipality will reduce the need for new part purchases, prevent e-waste generation at the source, and raise awareness that E-waste is a resource. The project starts during EWWR and will continue throughout the following year for long-term sustainable results.
