Targeting ZERO Cleanups by Identifying and Reporting Environmental Criminals
• WHAT will be done
Description:
This action has been ongoing for the past 5 years now.
In 2025 we continued our cleanup actions at Ghar Lapsi Natura 2000 site and now we have extended our actions till Wied iz-Zurrieq Natura 2000 site.
Identifying and Reporting the environmental criminals is crucial to reach our ZERO Cleanups Target in Ghar Lapsi area.
Our first target was to stop mainly the dumping of huge amounts of illegal construction waste and this was reached entirely in year 2025, as the last big dumping construction waste happened in Nov 2024. In the previous years this behaviour was seen as the norm week after week.
Dumping of animal waste, domestic waste and littering, is still an issue in certain spots, although this will be tackled later on.
In Sep 2025, we started our journey of actions into the 6th year.
During EWWR week we will do the following;
- A live video from Ghar Lapsi to update our followers on the current situation after 5 years.
- An online session on how to report illegal dumping to the authorities and other government entities depending where it is found. Citizens are still unaware to whom they shall report such cases and we will make it easy for them. We believe that the system is complex and needs to be simplified for their use.
- We will present and show some data collected across these years on the waste collected, time taken by the volunteers, number of fires, any actions taken by other government entities, and fines issued to the identified environmental criminals.
- We will do a cleanup investigation.
All will be shared on our facebook page on social media.
