SmartPhone collection
• WHAT will be done
Description:
During European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is running a collection for old and unwanted smart phones.
In today’s digital age, access to technology isn’t a luxury but a necessity. However, for many disadvantaged people, this is out of reach. We want to liberate your old smartphones, stored in drawers and cupboards, and put them into the hands of people who really need them.
What do we want?
Any smart phone less than 5 years old with a battery, non-cracked screen and able to switch on.
Do I have to include the charger?
No, but if you have one, it would be really useful.
Do I need to wipe my phone?
Yes, please remove the sim and memory card (if you have one), wipe personal data and factory reset your phone (you do this in Settings).
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council IT team will check that phones have been wiped.
How do I donate?
Place your old smartphone in one of the collection boxes at main reception in Cloonavin (66 Portstewart Road, Coleraine), Limavady Civic Office (7 Connell Street, Limavady), Riada House (14 Charles Street, Ballymoney), Sheskburn House (7 Mary Street, Ballycastle) from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday 24 to Friday 28 November.
Where will my old phone go?
It will be donated to someone in need via local homeless charities.
Smartphones that can’t be reused will be recycled.
Don’t let your old smartphone become electronic waste. Donate it to someone in need.
