Saving the treasures of Biatorbágy
• WHAT will be done
Description:
“Saving the treasures of Biatorbágy”
For our new, enthusiastic, environmentally conscious civil municipality, setting an example and shaping attitudes is important for our harmonious present and livable future. We started with small steps, and we would register for the program with several small projects, which are connected by the fact that in each of them, things that are no longer necessary for someone can become a real treasure for someone else.
(Our city is also a member of the National Association of Livable Settlements and the Association of Climate-Friendly Settlements 😉 )
1. Recycling; This year, we finally managed to abolish the decree allowing the open burning of garden waste, and to further popularize composting and mulching. Not only with lectures, competitions, tenders and the distribution of containers, but also with a subsidized (free) public branch shredding program. The first one was in the spring, and registration for the autumn campaign has now closed. The clippings shredded by the City Council remain with the owners, who either use them in the ways we recommend (for mulching, mixing into compost) or give them away or trade them. Fortunately, more and more people are looking for these treasures and see them as green goods , not as waste to be burned or transported. Related to this is that the thicker parts of what the City Council has collected during public area maintenance become social firewood. We spread the chips around the trees during the autumn community tree planting, and also under the young hedges and trees planted in previous years. Local residents can take the rest for free.
2. Passzold visszállás Tesó! There is a small waste collection yard on site, but it is outside the city, so it can only be reached by car, and in addition, electronic waste is mixed in there. The Passzold visszállás Tesó ! (Jane Goodall Institute program, used mobile phone collection point) had a collector in a small shop (Packaging-free shop <3 ) in the city, now we are organizing one in the Cultural Center and schools, with later awareness-raising lectures
3. Clothes and toys exchange in the Community House, with a free venue; Outgrown, tired clothes and toys can be sold for a symbolic price before the start of Advent. After the items are sold, 50 forints can be donated to a charity collection. This way everyone benefits; places are freed up at home, some income is added to the house, they can buy good clothes for a short time for fast-growing children cheaply, and even Christmas gifts can be obtained. Fortunately, not everyone is obsessed with brand new toys and sports equipment anymore. If you don’t want to take the remaining things home, we will deliver them to the Donation Point (run by a local family supporter)
4. Create a Rescuers List together on social media; shoemakers, seamstresses, handymen…. and publish it on the City website
