WHAT will be done

Description:

We are delivering a series of workshops focused on reusing e-waste collected from our shops. During these workshops, broken electronics are transformed into collaborative art installations. The aim is twofold: to raise awareness that e-waste can be recycled, and to showcase how artists can come together to create beauty from materials otherwise destined for landfills.

The artworks produced will culminate in a two-day pop-up exhibition, where we will also display upcycled clothing created in partnership with a local fashion school. Using clothing supplied from our shops, fashion students have designed unique garments that complement the installations. Widely promoted on social media and supported by the Eastern Regional Council, the event will engage a broad community audience, inspiring new ways of thinking about sustainability, creativity, and collaboration.

Circular Economy in Action

Our initiative represents a model of circular economy practice combined with community-driven cultural engagement. By transforming discarded electrical components into art, we not only divert waste from landfills but also reframe public perception of discarded technology. Material once deemed obsolete becomes a powerful medium for creative expression, collective storytelling, and cultural dialogue.

Learning Through Making

The workshops provide both technical and artistic literacy. Participants gain an understanding of the environmental impacts of e-waste while also learning how to deconstruct, repurpose, and reimagine components. This dual approach strengthens sustainability awareness while empowering participants with creative agency.

Building Community and Dialogue

The collaborative creation of installations fosters inclusivity and cross-disciplinary exchange. By bringing together artists, environmental advocates, and the public, the workshops cultivate a sense of shared responsibility for ecological stewardship. The temporary nature of the pop-up exhibition highlights society’s fragile, transient relationship with consumer electronics, inviting deeper reflection.

Legacy and Continuity

To maximise long-term impact, the project will be documented through video, photography, and participant testimonials. These materials will form ongoing educational resources, support future workshops, and potentially evolve into travelling exhibitions. In this way, the initiative extends far beyond the two-day event—continuing to spark conversations about sustainability, creativity, and collective responsibility.
