Retro Gadget Museum Program
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The Retro Gadget Museum program is an interactive, educational and nostalgic project that raises awareness by showing the lifespan of e-waste and the pace of technological development. Its goal is for students and parents to see not only trash, but also the technical and historical value of old electronic devices. This is an awareness campaign that addresses not only students, but also parents and grandparents, and thus actively involves several generations.
The collection of exhibition material is not about throwing away trash, but about preserving and presenting it. The students’ task is to search for the oldest, interesting, but no longer used or non-functional electronic devices together with their parents and grandparents. (E.g. old mobile phones, walkmans, portable CD players, floppy disks, VHS tapes, old printers, DOS computers, ancient digital cameras.)
Family Story task: Each student who brings in an object should write/draw a short description and presentation of the object. E.g.: When was it bought? What was it used for? Why was it replaced?
Creation of a Museum from the collected objects and photographs in one of the rooms, which will be temporarily open during the action week.
The objects of the exhibition will also be placed on a timeline, so that students can visually see the rapid development of technology.
Treasure in the Waste corner, where it is possible to present some safely disassembled pieces of e-waste (e.g. a computer motherboard, memory modules). This helps to understand how much raw material is under the cover that could be reused.
The museum aims to make us think about consumption. It specifically draws attention to the fact that the presented devices contain rare, mined metals. It focuses on the importance of individual responsibility in our purchases. It promotes sustainable thinking through discussions.
