(Re)Thinking about Electronic Waste: Reducing, Reusing, and Recovering

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

The entire educational community, with a special focus on students, will be raised aware of the importance of adopting practices that promote the reduction, recovery, and reuse of electrical and electronic devices.
This initiative will be implemented through the following actions:

Awareness campaign: development and dissemination of posters, informative videos, and billboards addressing the issue of electronic waste, highlighting the importance of reducing it and recycling it properly;

Waste collection campaign: organizing a collection of end-of-life electronic devices, ensuring their recycling in accordance with environmental standards;

Collection of small electrical and electronic devices, whether functional or potentially recoverable: the collected devices will be subsequently delivered to a partner institution for repair and reuse;

Awareness sessions and repair workshops: in partnership with ECO PORTO and Recycle Geeks, awareness sessions led by experts in electrical and electronic waste management will be held, focusing on the importance of recycling and the environmental impacts associated with electronic waste. The same organizations will also host a hands-on repair workshop, during which students will have the opportunity to learn basic repair procedures for small devices (such as radios or electronic toys), fostering technical and sustainability skills;

Artistic activities with electronic waste: development of artistic works using components from obsolete equipment, stimulating students’ creativity and environmental awareness;

Production of a documentary or short film: creation of an audiovisual recording that illustrates the life cycle of electronic equipment—from production to recycling—with the purpose of encouraging reflection and the adoption of more sustainable behaviors;

Use of pedagogical resources provided by LIPOR, with a view to strengthening the educational component and raising environmental awareness;

Integration of topics into Citizenship and Development classes, as well as other subject areas, fostering a cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approach;

Dissemination of the initiatives to the Parents’ Association, through class directors, to promote family involvement and shared responsibility.

During EWWR Week, the results of the monitoring activities will be presented and an exhibition will be held showcasing the work developed, highlighting the lessons learned and best practices implemented within this project.
