ReSound: Student-Led Soundproofing Initiative

Info

WHAT will be done

Description:

Our school has recently been gifted 500 laptops, each accompanied by packaging materials including boxes, plastic, and foam inserts. Rather than disposing of these electrical-related materials as waste, our students have identified an opportunity to repurpose them in an innovative, sustainable way: to create a soundproofing system for our school music room. They will be reusing all foam and cardboard materials that were supplied with the laptops. The school music room is a hub for music and audio-based learning. Currently, sound from the room can travel to adjacent classrooms and corridors, causing disruption and as such the use of music and musical instruments is being limited. By developing a soundproofing system using repurposed materials, students will be able to have more opportunities to learn music and participate in music related activities during school time.
Students want to record their procedure and produce an implementation document so that Tech companies and the Government can share this document for possible similar implementation when they distribute large amounts of such tech to schools each year. Estimated costs are 150 Euro for glue, adhesive and screws. The rest are all reused products.
