Project “Tazza Waħda”
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The Western Regional Council, together with the Ħal Safi Local Council, launched “Tazza Waħda” to make the village feast more sustainable without losing its community spirit. Instead of hundreds of disposable cups ending up in bins, feast bars and social clubs offered reusable cups that people could return and use again throughout the celebrations.
To make the initiative even more impactful, waste separation stations were placed around the feast area, helping visitors sort their waste correctly with clear signage and guidance from the council.
By the end of the feast, 160 kg of recyclables and 100 kg of mixed waste were collected — meaning 160 kg of materials were kept out of the landfill. The project showed that even Malta’s most cherished traditions can be celebrated in a cleaner, more sustainable way.
