Pass it back, bro! – Every phone call counts!
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The Jane Goodall Institute launched a joint campaign in 2018 with the KÖVET Association, the Afrikaért Alaplitvány and the Védegylet Association, which targets used but unused mobile phones in Hungarian households. People pack these devices in various hidden corners, where they hide for years until they are thrown away. Without even realizing what a treasure they contain.
The coltan ore needed to produce mobile phones is mined in Africa, in the habitat of endangered species such as gorillas and chimpanzees, consuming their forests. We want to stop this process, so we have now decided to collect these mobile phones for recycling. We ask everyone to look around their homes, take them out, find a collection point we have set up, and throw them in our box.
It is also possible to set up a collection point, for which we provide background material, educational materials, assistance, and mentoring. The goal is for everyone to start a campaign in their own community to attract devices hidden in drawers.
