OUR Waste IS OUR POWER
• WHAT will be done
Description:
As a member of the Eco Schools network, the 3nd Primary School of Nea Erythraia is dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability. During the European Week of Waste Reduction, students will take part in activities to minimize waste at school.
Although the school has recycling bins for plastics, lamps, electrical waste, cooking oil, toners, batteries, paper, and organic waste, they are not always used correctly. To improve this, older students will guide younger ones in proper recycling practices.
All classes will be encouraged to recycle one or more materials using the school’s recycling corner and to create labels explaining what to recycle and where. Each class will select its own recycling focus. They will also take part in cleaning actions to keep the school environment tidy and waste-free.
The 5th grade will participate in a pilot project by Scientix and Clarios, using the Learning Scenario “Mission Voltra: From Battery Secrets to Sustainable Solutions.” This project highlights the importance of recycling batteries—especially large ones—and explores how circular economy practices can reduce the environmental impact of battery production and disposal.
The 6th grade will lead a campaign to raise awareness in the school community about food and oil recycling, with a focus on the proper use of the compost and oil recycling bins.
