Let’s be sustainable gamers!
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The gaming industry is estimated to be worth around $280 billion and is expected to more than double in size between now and 2030. It serves a community of over three billion active gamers around the world [1]. Every new generation still participates in this growing community. We need to make it sustainable much more than ever. We need to make these young gamers understand that the future is theirs and sustainable thinkings are for them and let them be aware that it is not a game, it is a real world.
In this action, we want them to be aware of that “A sustainable gaming industry is possible”. Yes, we know that this industry is huge. But let’s take small steps to get bigger impacts. Our first step is “clean-up the hardware”.
Manufacturers consider the life cycle of consoles and controllers, a critical issue when you consider they are upgraded on average every five to seven years, and cannot be recycled, thanks to their combination of plastics, and trace elements of multiple types of metal [2].
We want gamers to participate in this action. We will collect the used/broken hardware (keyboards, mouses etc.) and give them some info about how they can be sustainable gamers. We will use the used/broken hardware in our simultaneous action: “e-waste to e-art”.
