Less waste, more ideas – this is sustainable fashion!
• WHAT will be done
Description:
Less waste, more ideas – this is sustainable fashion!
The Eco-Label Certification Office (Hungaromet Zrt., Directorate of Environmental Protection) is also joining the Waste Reduction Week at the finals of the sustainable fashion school competition. Around 120 students applied for the national high school competition, which started with the motto “The Eco-Label in Fashion”, and the top 10 teams will compete in the final event to be held on November 28, 2025. The messages of the Waste Reduction Week will appear in 3 elements of the event, which will take place at the Budapest venue (Hotel Vision):
1. We will create an exhibition corner in the room for the posters and content of the Waste Reduction Week, which the participating students can view and take selfies with 2-3 prepared superhero capes, as those who – by participating in the eco-label competition – also did something for waste reduction that day. (“Be the hero of zero-waste fashion!”)
2. From the perspective of textile waste, we will examine the life cycle of textiles using a poster, where we will mark the current situation of the students/participants as consumers with the inscription “You are here”. With the help of the students, we will collect what we can/can do to reduce textile waste from this perspective (clothing repair, exchanging, reusing, improving tired clothes and accessories, upcycling, recycling materials). To illustrate this, we invited an upcycling designer and a fashion show featuring his recycled clothes.
3. Feedback, collaborative thinking: We will collect and measure the waste collected during the 5-hour event, and we will make the students aware that such a short, 50-person event, where they had a good time, produces so much trash – what we are doing/have done to reduce it (selection, recycling, hotel efforts), and how this could be further enhanced.
We trust that our waste reduction campaign can greatly contribute to the knowledge and attitude of the students, and that the information and environmentally friendly thinking can spread further in their own environment (family, school).
