GBS HE Malta will take part in the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) 2025 with two sustainability actions designed to promote responsible behavior, reduce waste, and encourage student engagement.

Action 1: Beach Clean-Up (EWWR Community Initiative)

As part of EWWR 2025, GBS HE Malta will organize a beach clean-up activity to reduce litter, protect marine ecosystems, and promote environmental responsibility through community volunteering.

Objectives

• Prevent waste from reaching the sea by collecting litter from the coastline

• Raise awareness about waste reduction and responsible disposal

• Encourage teamwork and community participation

Action 2: EWWR 2025 GBS HE Malta Challenge – “Think Smart, Use Smart!”

Focus: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) – E-Waste

This student-focused challenge encourages smarter use of technology by saving energy and extending the lifespan of electronic devices—because the best way to reduce e-waste is to use less, for longer, and more consciously.

Main Objective

Encourage students to use their devices responsibly, reduce energy consumption, and adopt habits that help prevent unnecessary e-waste.

5-Day Challenge

Day 1 – Power Down Monday (Energy Saving)
Turn off and unplug all devices and chargers that are not in use.

Day 2 – Tech Detox Tuesday (Conscious Screen Use)
Spend one hour without a phone or social media—use that time to read, walk, or have a face-to-face conversation.

Day 3 – Battery Smart Wednesday (Extend Battery & Device Life)
Adopt smart habits: avoid charging to 100%, close unused apps, use battery saver mode, and reduce screen brightness.

Day 4 – Reuse & Repair Thursday (Reuse & Repair)
Identify one device you could repair, donate, or share instead of replacing.

Day 5 – Smart Future Friday (Commitment & Awareness)
Campus “Sustainability Pledge Wall” where students write their personal eco-tech promises.
