EcoScouting – For a Cleaner Greener Future
• WHAT will be done
Description:
As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, San Ġwann Scout Group has embarked on multiple initiatives to promote sustainability and reduce waste within our community.
The group has carried out two community clean-up events, one in collaboration with the San Ġwann Local Council at Wied Ghomor and another with the Save Our Blue initiative at Golden Bay. The final goal was to help to restore and preserve local natural spaces and fight the constant pollution caused by abusers.
In our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility, the group is also:
-
Introducing recycling waste bins at our Scouts headquarters to improve waste separation and recycling practices.
-
Advocating for the use of reusable materials and equipment during camps, activities, and fundraisers with a ban on single-use plastics.
-
Switching from small disposable 2L water bottles to large refillable 19L water refills with dispensers, significantly reducing plastic waste.
-
Reusing condensate water from our air-conditioning system for sustainable purposes such as watering plants, washing, and cleaning.
Through these actions, our Scout Group aims to lead by example, fostering awareness and responsibility among our members and the wider community to protect our environment and reduce waste. If kids can do it, so can adults.
A recap of all our efforts over the past year will be presented on Friday 28th November and we will also inaugurate the new outdoor recycling bin containers.
