At the 1st Nursery School of Eleftherio Kordelio, our little Eco-Explorers take action during the European Week for Waste Reduction through a series of creative and meaningful activities:

1. In the action “Clean Park, Clean Neighborhood!”, children, parents, and teachers work together to clean the nearby park and surrounding area. All collected waste is carefully sorted by type—plastic, paper, metal, and organic—promoting correct recycling habits and care for public spaces.
2. In “Second Life for Our Materials!”, children collect clean recyclable materials and creatively reuse them to make new toys and artworks, learning that materials can have a second life instead of becoming waste.
3. The “Zero Waste Lunchbox Challenge!” invites families and children to reduce lunchbox waste by using reusable containers and avoiding single-use packaging, while “The Brown Bin in Our Lives!” helps children understand organic waste management and composting by collecting food scraps and turning them into valuable compost.
4. The action “Bin for Our Devices!” focuses on small electrical and electronic equipment. Families bring old or broken devices to a special bin at school, learning about responsible WEEE disposal and recycling.
5. In “Sort – Learn – Protect!”, each classroom practices daily waste sorting using color-coded bins for paper, plastic, metal, and organic materials, fostering environmental awareness and responsibility.

Finally, through the “Invisible Waste Awareness Campaign”, the nursery shares digital posters and informative emails with families and the local community to highlight the problem of invisible waste—the hidden environmental impact of everyday products—and inspire more mindful and sustainable habits.

All these actions together encourage children, teachers, and families to reduce, reuse, recycle, and take collective care of their environment as true Eco-Explorers.
