Do students take the “Dose Certa” (The Right Dose) at U.Porto Canteens?
• WHAT will be done
Description:
“Dose Certa” (The Right Dose) is a project that aims to reduce food waste in university canteens of the University of Porto (U.Porto).
At the mentioned dates, the second stage of the project will take place. This stage will focus on raising consumer awareness about preventing food waste during lunch service. Students will be informed about the amount of food wasted in the canteen.
On one of the days, a group of professional actors will perform a role-play activity during lunch time to engage students and encourage behavioral change towards reducing food waste.
Throughout the week, we will measure the amount of food waste, separating it into categories such as soup waste, edible waste, and non-edible waste. These measurements will include waste generated by consumers (from their plates) and in the preparation sector.
All collected data will be compared with the results from the first stage of the project, during which waste was measured under the same menu conditions. This comparison will allow us to assess whether the awareness actions have been successful in reducing food waste.
