Ħal Għargħur’s Community Sewing Workshop
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The Għargħur Local Council is proud to host a free sewing workshop aimed at bringing the community together and teaching practical skills around everyday clothing alterations and repairs.
The session will be led by Kelly Pisani, co-founder of Dainty Vintage, a business based in Għargħur, in collaboration with the Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS). The workshop will guide parents and children through the basics of clothing alterations and everyday repairs, with a special focus on maintaining and mending school uniforms.
The initiative will support circular fashion and form part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, taking place between 22 and 30 November 2025.
Each participant will receive a Dainty Sewing Kit containing everything needed to follow the session, including assorted needles, neutral and coloured thread, thread snippers, measuring tape, small scissors, pins and safety pins, a pin cushion, elastic strip, spare buttons, a seam ripper, hemming tape, and an optional needle threader.
Making School Uniforms Last: What You’ll Learn
The two-hour workshop will be held on 22 November 2025 at the Ħal Għargħur Local Council from 18:00 to 20:00, and will cover a range of practical topics, including an introduction to the Dainty Sewing Kit, fixing and replacing buttons on polo shirts, patching and mending holes in garments, shortening, lengthening and adjusting hems, as well as repairing and replacing elastic bands.
Each topic will also be featured in a dedicated video on Ħal Għargħur’s YouTube channel, extending the reach of the initiative and highlighting the locality’s commitment to sustainability and community well-being.
Thanks to the support of John A. Kingsley, the Dainty Sewing Kits will be provided free of charge to all participants.
