During September and October 2025, Reġjun Punent, together with several Local Councils, organised a series of cleanup activities across the region to restore public and natural areas often affected by illegal dumping and littering.

Each locality made a valuable contribution:

Kirkop: 100 kg of litter and 150 kg of green waste collected from a public passage near the old chapel, later processed for mulching.

Ħal Safi: 50 kg of litter and 120 kg of bulky waste (including a chest freezer, toilet, and rolls of qatran) removed from the rural area near the Dog Park.

Żurrieq: 35 kg of litter collected near Gnien il-Gibjun at the start of the valley.

Rabat: 120 kg of litter and 300 kg of bulky waste (tiles, metal, wooden pallets) cleared from the scenic area near the Victoria Lines, popular for hikes and picnics.

Ħaż-Żebbuġ: Approximately 400–500 kg of mixed waste removed from under a bridge in the Wied San Anton (San Blas) area, filling two skips.

Qrendi: The Region’s first underwater cleanup at Wied iż-Żurrieq, recovering 12 tyres (120 kg), a 15 kg hydraulic machine, 30 kg of glass, and three ladders weighing 240 kg in total.

In all, the campaign successfully collected around 1,600 kg of waste from land and sea, protecting natural spaces and strengthening community pride in local environments.
