We encourage parents of children attending our institution to exchange outgrown, bored storybooks and unused coloring books. We inform them through paperless communication on our institution’s Facebook page and in our kindergarten closed Facebook groups, and we also help the exchange process by creating a closed group. The parties can coordinate under the uploaded pictures. Our goal is to reduce paper waste, make books more popular, and indirectly reduce e-waste by reducing children’s screen time, phone-tablet, television, and game console usage, or perhaps replacing them with something more valuable. This initiative is a great opportunity to motivate our community to be environmentally aware, with which Parents can set an example for their children. Instead of using the phone and television, their parents can tell them stories. The handovers are assisted by kindergarten teachers and early childhood educators working in our institution, if a personal meeting is difficult. During the personal exchange, people who would not normally meet can also meet, which is a great opportunity to build relationships and participate in future initiatives.
