Awareness through Creativity
• WHAT will be done
Description:
On the specified days we will post on our facebook page more information on the session below, along with further tips:
During the summer months, our team delivered a series of interactive and educational sessions in summer schools of Mosta, Naxxar and Gharghur, where we focused on waste management and environmental responsibility. The sessions combined storytelling, creativity, and play to help children understand the importance of taking care of their environment. Each session featured a mix of engaging activities designed to make sustainability both fun and memorable for children aged 9–10. We did these sessions with a class of around 10 – 15 students in every locality mentioned above:
-
Scenario Activity – “The Secret of Rubbish Island”:
Children were introduced to a story through a short video featuring superheroes who protect their island by managing waste responsibly. The story encouraged teamwork, creativity, and the idea that everyone can be a hero for the planet. -
Educational Video & Quiz:
Participants watched a short, informative video showing how long different types of waste take to disintegrate. Afterwards, they took part in a fun quiz to test their knowledge and reinforce what they had learned about the long-lasting impact of waste on the environment. -
“Guardians of the Island” Flag Activity:
Each child received a small piece of reused cardboard to decorate and write one personal action they can take to help manage waste. These pieces were later assembled into a group flag made from recycled materials — symbolizing unity, creativity, and collective responsibility. -
Recycled Art Creation:
Using recyclable materials, children designed and built artistic creations — such as mascots for waste management — to promote re-use and environmental awareness through art. -
Games with Recyclables:
Through playful activities and games made from recyclable materials, participants discovered how everyday objects can be repurposed and enjoyed in new, creative ways.
Impact:
The initiative helped children:
-
Understand the environmental impact of waste and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
-
Develop a sense of personal responsibility toward sustainable practices.
-
Engage creatively with waste materials, transforming them into meaningful art and play.
-
Strengthen teamwork and community spirit through collaborative work.
