- WHAT
The City of Athens organizes the “Athens Be Green Recycling Hackathon – Innovation for a Green Future,” a two-day educational innovation marathon focusing on recycling, reuse, and circular economy.
Students from primary and secondary schools will work in teams to develop creative and applicable ideas that contribute to waste reduction and measurable environmental impact.
The Hackathon aims to promote environmental awareness, strengthen innovative thinking, and encourage young citizens to actively participate in shaping a greener city.
Thematic areas include polymer waste reuse, textile upcycling and design thinking, biowaste and composting technologies, behavioral change, and circular business models.
This action highlights the importance of education as a driver for change and innovation toward sustainability.
- HOW
The “Athens Be Green Recycling Hackathon” will take place on 25–26 November 2025 at the Molyvi multipurpose venue (154 Iera Odos, Aigaleo).
The event is structured in four stages:

Opening & Introduction – Registration, welcoming, and presentation of the main themes.

Workshops & Team Formation – Creation of student teams and participation in at least three interactive workshops led by educators and mentors.

Idea Development & Mentoring – Hands-on development of proposals with environmental benefits under expert guidance.

Final Presentations & Awards – Evaluation by a jury of specialists and award ceremony celebrating the most innovative ideas.
The action also includes:

Educational workshops held in schools prior to the Hackathon.

A two-week communication campaign (until 10 December 2025) with social media, press releases, and video content.

Visibility actions with EWWR logos and banners at the venue.
Expected results: over 150 participants, 10+ innovative ideas, and increased awareness of circular economy principles among students and teachers.
