We are thrilled to reveal the winner and runners-up of the EWWR2024 Photo Contest!
This 16th edition of the EWWR saw many participants in our contest, showcasing their creativity through amazing photos of inspiring waste reduction initiatives. A huge thank you to everyone who took part!

1. “Crumbs (Leftover sharing) party” by MiReHu Nonprofit Kft

The winning picture is “Crumbs (Leftover sharing) party” by MiReHu Nonprofit Kft, a non-hazardous waste collection, transport and treatment company in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (Hungary). The photo respected all the rules of the contest and scored the highest for visibility of this year’s thematic focus and originality of the picture.
The Crumb (Leftover Sharing) Party encouraged workplace communities and groups of friends to cook together using leftover ingredients from their households that would otherwise go to waste or to share their remaining ready-made meals.

2. “The soap of recycling” by 2nd ΕΚ of Piraeus school
The 2nd School Laboratory Center of Piraeus, located on Leoforos Pireos (Greece), is a finalist in the contest with this photo taken during their action The Soap of Recycling. Students learned about reusing oil for soap production and brought used cooking oil to school. Guided by teachers, they made soap in the lab and packaged it in recyclable materials. The soaps are now used in school facilities. By the end of the week, students gained hands-on experience in waste reduction and circular economy principles.

3. “haFOODa matata” by Evgenia Dionysopoulou
Also a finalist is this photo taken by Evgenia Dionysopoulou during the haFOODa matata event! The City of Athens organised a series of haFOODa matata actions, promoting food waste reduction and separate bio-waste collection. The initiative combined inspiration, information, and interactive education through a photo exhibition, animation, and hands-on workshops for students!
