AWARDS CEREMONY | The finalists of the Educational establishment category

Meet the finalists of the EWWR 2024 in the “Educational establishment” category:

  • From waste to resources: Educational innovation for sustainability implemented by Institut d’Horticultura i Jardineria, in Reus.

The project engages the whole school community in promoting sustainability and the circular economy by turning waste into valuable resources. Nearly 100 kg of fruits and vegetables were saved using potassium soap (from recycled oil) and natural fertilizers.

  • Recirculating Magaya implemented by Ies Escultor Juande Villanueva, in Siero.

Focusing on food waste, students explored new uses for magaya—apple pulp left over from traditional cider making in Asturias. Once used as animal feed, it’s now often discarded due to declining farming. Through food innovation, they gave it new value.

  • Zero waste international kitchen workshop implemented by Afyon Kocatepe University, in Afyonkarahisar.

Under the motto “Food Waste Is Full of Taste,” a culinary event at Afyon Vocational School brought together 13 local and 13 international students to create innovative dishes using food waste.
