Bring your own Cutlery during Iklet Niesna – Mejda Waħda

EWWR Action – Promoting Reuse and a Culture of Waste Prevention

As part of Iklet Niesna: Mejda Waħda, a traditional community lunch organised by the San Lawrenz Local Council in collaboration with Ta’ Ċangura Folk Group, we are introducing a practical initiative to promote waste prevention, reuse and environmentally responsible behaviour.

Participants will be encouraged to bring their own reusable cutlery, reducing the need for disposable alternatives. Each participant will also receive a washable, reusable cloth napkin as a commemorative souvenir, encouraging its continued use long after the event.

Through this initiative, we aim to contribute to the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) by:

• Reducing: Minimising single-use products and unnecessary waste during community events.
• Reusing: Promoting durable cutlery and fabric napkins that can be used repeatedly.
• Recycling: Encouraging proper waste separation and recycling of unavoidable waste generated during the event.
• Changing mentalities: Demonstrating how small changes in everyday habits can collectively make a meaningful environmental difference.

Our ultimate objective is to show that celebrating our cultural traditions and protecting the environment can go hand in hand, transforming a community gathering into an opportunity for environmental awareness and lasting behavioural change.
