Learn your R’s

Our Year 5 students will engage in a rich, cross‑curricular exploration of the 3R’s—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle—through hands‑on, meaningful activities that deepen their understanding of waste, sustainability and responsible environmental stewardship. Guided by a carefully chosen book, pupils will strengthen their literacy skills while learning key facts about waste, waste management and the impact of human behaviour on the environment. In mathematics, they will collect, illustrate and interpret real data, applying their knowledge to authentic Maltese waste‑collection scenarios. Through class discussions and practical investigations, students will examine clean waste brought from home and consider how each item can be reduced, reused or recycled, before transforming selected materials into creative new objects. The week will culminate in a Show and Tell presentation, where students share how they can implement the 3R’s at home, empowering them to become thoughtful, proactive contributors to a more sustainable future.
