Running for the sea we love!

This activity is part of our school’s Action Plan, within the framework of our participation in the Eco- Schools Programme, focusing on the theme of the sea and the protection of the marine environment. As our area is close to the sea, the children have personal experiences and everyday encounters with the marine environment. During their visits to the beach, they share their observations about the litter they come across and express their concerns about marine pollution. Building on these experiences, as well as on the research carried out within the school, the children will reflect on responsible waste management and explore the principles of the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle through hands-on activities, discovering simple ways to put them into practice in their everyday lives. 

At the same time, inspired by the proposal in WWF’s educational calendar “Active Citizen of Nature” to organise an environmental marathon, the children will work in groups to create posters and awareness-raising messages promoting the 3Rs and highlighting their importance for protecting the sea.

The activity will culminate in a symbolic marathon at a nearby sports venue, dedicated to the protection of the sea. Parents and other members of the school community will also be invited to participate, joining the children in spreading their environmental messages.

The main aim is to foster environmental awareness, encourage responsible everyday habits based on the principles of the 3Rs, and strengthen teamwork and children’s active participation in protecting the environment.
