RAIN SHARE: Do You Really Need to Own This?

Rain Share is a circular urban sharing concept that questions the need to own products that are only needed temporarily.

The idea was inspired by an experience in Stockholm, where unexpected rain created an immediate need for rain protection while short-lived rain products were difficult or expensive to find. Around a large urban running event, the contrast was striking: some people needed protection for a few hours, while others were left with products whose useful purpose had already ended.

Rain Share proposes a different model:

Instead of buying rain protection for a temporary need, people could access reusable items from one point in the city, use them for as long as needed and return them at the same or another Rain Share point. Returned items would be checked, cleaned, dried and repaired when necessary before being made available for reuse.

During EWWR 2026, an online interactive awareness experience will take visitors through the story behind Rain Share, the problem of short-term consumption and the proposed sharing model. Through visual content and simple questions, visitors will be invited to reflect on how they respond to temporary needs, explore the difference between ownership and access, and imagine how a city-wide sharing system could work.

Visitors will also be invited to share their response to the concept through a few simple questions, providing an indication of their willingness to choose access and reuse over temporary ownership.
