AFEDE – Ecologists on a Mission: Our Planet Is Not Disposable

“AFEDE – Ecologists on a Mission: Our Planet Is Not Disposable” is a nationwide educational and community awareness campaign planned for Romania during the European Week for Waste Reduction, from 21 to 29 November 2026.

Coordinated by AFEDE – Asociația pentru Educație, Formare și Dezvoltare Europeană, the campaign invites children and young people, supported by their teachers, to create waste prevention posters and bring their messages into the local community.

The action follows a simple sequence: explore an everyday waste problem, identify a practical solution, create a clear visual message, and display it where people can see it. With permission from the hosts, posters will be exhibited in libraries, community centres, local shops, school entrances accessible to families, and other community spaces.

Messages will encourage people to refuse unnecessary packaging, rethink purchases, reduce food waste and paper consumption, choose reusable alternatives, and repair items before replacing them. The campaign connects material sufficiency with everyday decisions that children, families and community members can understand and apply.

Activities will be adapted for preschool, primary, secondary and vocational education. Younger children can contribute drawings and simple messages, while older students can develop more detailed explanations and practical recommendations. Participants will be encouraged to use existing or reused materials when producing their posters.

AFEDE will provide shared guidance and a simple reporting framework. Teachers will document the posters, exhibition locations, dates and numbers of participants. Eligible contributions may be presented in a digital gallery and a map of participating communities.

Evaluation will focus on documented participation, the relevance of the waste prevention messages, and their visibility in community spaces. The campaign aims to connect classroom learning with public engagement and encourage habits that continue beyond the action week.
