The Sustainable Backpack

INFO [what will be done]

Description:

“THE SUSTAINABLE BACKPACK”

The activity consists of a group challenge in which visitors must decide what items to take on a countryside excursion while trying to generate as little waste as possible.

To do this, the children will be divided into five groups. Each group will receive a backpack and will have to choose from a set of items represented on cards (compass, flip-flops, umbrella, adhesive bandages, pocketknife, etc.).

The groups will then take part in a role-play excursion, either around the Arboretum locate in the surroundings of the visitors center of Valdemingomez Technology Park, weather permitting, or inside the building. Along the route, they will face various situations and decisions that require them to consider the consequences of their choices. At the end of the activity, a plenary discussion will be held to share and reflect on the decisions made by each group.

For pupils in Years 5 and 6 of Primary Education, the activity will be complemented by the creation of a collaborative poster that they can take back to their classroom. The poster will include everyday actions that contribute to waste reduction.

In the event of adverse weather conditions, the activity can be adapted for indoor delivery
