I Am Transforming Waste Yarn
INFO [what will be done]
Description:
From Waste Yarns to New Products – A Second Chance for Yarns
Students at the Ahmet Kutsi Tecer Special Education Vocational School in Sivas will undertake an inclusive and environmentally friendly project to repurpose waste yarns left over from textile and handicraft work, transforming them into usable and creative new products.
In this project, unused yarns that could be considered waste will be reused instead of being thrown away. Students will design and produce bandanas, keychains, and various decorative and everyday use products using waste yarns of different colors and characteristics. In this way, materials considered waste will be given a new function and value.
Special education students will actively participate in the creative process according to their skills, interests, and needs. Students will take part in stages such as choosing colors, assembling yarns, creating designs, shaping products, and evaluating completed products. With the guidance of teachers and individualized support when needed, each student will be ensured to participate meaningfully in the process.
This activity aims to raise students’ awareness of waste reduction, reuse, and efficient use of resources. It also aims to support their manual dexterity, creativity, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. The aim is for students to experience the value of production and recycling by using the products they create in their daily lives.
One of the important aims of the study is for students to realize that they are not only consumers, but also individuals who produce by reusing existing materials and contributing to the environment. Transforming used and unwanted yarns into new products aims to provide a different perspective on consumption habits and to show that materials considered “waste” can be reused.
The students’ work during the activity will be documented with photos and videos and shared with the school community. The completed products will be exhibited in the school environment, making the students’ efforts visible. This aims to support the students’ success in the production process and to raise awareness about waste prevention and reuse within the school community.
The amount of waste yarn used, the number of students participating in the activity, and the number of products created will be recorded. This will reveal the environmental and social impact of the study carried out through the reuse of waste materials.
This initiative aims to draw attention to the importance of reducing waste generation and reusing existing materials as much as possible within the scope of European Waste Reduction Week. Thanks to the students’ creativity, waste ropes will be transformed into new and functional products; environmental responsibility, production, creativity, and the active participation of special education students will come together.
Our message: Every rope can be reused. Every material is an opportunity for a new product. Every student has a place in the production process.
