NGOs can turn material sufficiency into a collective experience by sharing practical skills, connecting people and making reuse accessible. Repair cafés, swap events and community redistribution are among the action types highlighted during the EWWR.
- Organise a repair cafè
Bring together volunteers with practical skills to help people repair broken household items, clothes, bicycles or electronics. Participants learn how to fix things, share knowledge and discover alternatives to throwing products away. During the EWWR, provide tools, guidance and a welcoming space where participants can learn to repair small appliances, textiles or other everyday objects.
- Host a swap and sharing event
Invite residents to exchange clothes, books, toys, plants or household items. Alternatively, launch a neighbourhood sharing scheme for tools, camping equipment or other items that people only use occasionally.
- Run a workshop on the impacts of consumption
Use a participatory activity to help people explore the environmental and social impacts of products, particularly clothing, and identify practical ways to buy less, repair and reuse.
Check the EWWR toolbox on textile to find inspiring books, documentaries and materials for your workshop.
