You See Waste… We See Possibilities!
INFO [what will be done]
Description:
During EWWR, our three childcare centres will explore how everyday materials that are often discarded can be given a second life through play, creativity and exploration.
In the weeks leading up to the action, families and staff will be encouraged to collect clean and safe reusable materials such as cardboard boxes and tubes, packaging, paper, fabric scraps, ribbons, containers and other suitable items.
During the action, these materials will become the focus of several child-led experiences, including a Cardboard Box Challenge, From Scraps to Art collaborative process art, and a No New Toys Week, where emphasis will be placed on creating meaningful play opportunities using existing, reused and repurposed resources rather than purchasing new ones.
As our centres follow an emergent, child-led approach, the materials will intentionally be presented without predetermined outcomes. Children will be encouraged to explore, construct, create and discover their own possibilities.
Through this initiative, we aim to encourage children, educators and families to rethink what we consider waste, reduce unnecessary consumption, reuse existing resources and repurpose materials before disposing of them.
The action will be documented through photographs showing the materials before use and the many unexpected ways in which the children transform and explore them — demonstrating that sometimes what adults see as waste, children see as endless possibilities.
