QSARI-318 – Stop Cigarette Butt Pollution: From Waste to Resources

QSARI-318 – Stop Cigarette Butt Pollution: From Waste to Resources

From 21 to 29 November 2026, ALROST Natali SRL, through the QSARI-318 initiative, will organise an environmental awareness campaign in Bucharest, Romania, as part of a coordinated initiative also taking place in Iași.

Information materials promoting the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) will be displayed on existing QSARI-318 cigarette butt collectors installed at designated smoking areas.

Smokers using these collectors will be encouraged to invite friends and colleagues to dispose of their cigarette butts responsibly, rather than abandoning them in the environment.

The initiative builds on a national network of more than 400 dedicated collectors and approximately 1,000 kg of cigarette butts collected to date.

The collected material also supports ongoing experimental research into the separation of eight material fractions and their potential recovery as secondary raw materials.

The campaign promotes responsible behaviour, community participation, separate collection and the prevention of environmental pollution.
