ONE WATER – The Ticino River, Communities and Agriculture

ONE WATER – The Ticino River, Communities and Agriculture

As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) 2026, the University of Pavia’s OSA – Office for Sustainable Actions is organising a public event dedicated to water as a shared resource connecting ecosystems, communities and agriculture.

The event will bring together researchers, water management professionals and representatives of the agricultural sector to explore the challenges of protecting water resources, improving water efficiency and adapting to climate change.

Starting from the Ticino River, discussions will address water quality, urban water services, agricultural irrigation and the growing pressures on water availability.

Special attention will be given to the hidden water footprint of everyday products, from clothing and paper to electronic devices and coffee. An accompanying exhibition, “The Water You Don’t See”, will encourage participants to reflect on how everyday choices, waste prevention, repair and reuse can help conserve water.

Through expert presentations and an open roundtable discussion, the initiative aims to promote dialogue between science, institutions and citizens, highlighting the importance of shared responsibility and more sustainable water consumption.
