Ma.Bu. Party

Ma.Bu Party – Swap it! is an educational clothing exchange organized during the European Week for Waste Reduction to promote circular consumption among lower secondary school students. By exchanging clean, pre-loved garments using a token system, the initiative aims to highlight the environmental impact of fast fashion, instill zero-waste habits through active participation, and foster community solidarity through responsible sharing.

The project begins with a brief classroom presentation covering textile waste and event guidelines, allowing up to 3/4 clean, quality items per student. Volunteers and student representatives inspect and sort collected items, issuing one token per approved garment. On Swap Day, the school hall becomes a pop-up store where classes browse and redeem their tokens for new-to-them clothing.

Through this hands-on experience, students directly divert textile waste from landfills, build awareness of eco-friendly choices, and help establish a repeatable model for future school sustainability initiatives.

Local Partnerships & Social Impact

This event is organized in close collaboration with the Parish Caritas. All garments remaining at the end of the swap party will be donated to the Parish Caritas to support local families in difficulty. Furthermore, this school project is connected to an analogous community Swap Party managed by a local partner association and open to all citizens.
