Da Tradição ao ZERO desperdício ; Tradition with Zero Waste

INFO [what will be done]

Description:

This year’s edition has the theme “Material Sufficiency” and invites reflection on how we consume and use resources. Under the slogan “Question our choices, value our resources,” the campaign highlights that the best way to reduce waste is to prevent it from being produced, favouring more conscious choices, reuse, repair, sharing, and responsible consumption.

Following this theme, we would like to connect Tradition with Zero Waste. So, we want to talk about our traditional Holy Spirit soups and reveal, at least based on numbers from one parish, the high number of plates, cups, and cutlery used during these days. We know the products are made from recycled material, but that same material cannot be reused in this context, and often there is no way to properly dispose of it in the trash or recycling after the festivities.

That being said, over the course of this week, the aim is to show people that going back to the old tradition of using ceramic dishes would be a real plus, since soups are already an offering; it doesn’t hurt to help out by bringing your own plate, which would consequently lead to less waste of various resources like paper, water, and gas.

Our idea, therefore, is based on creating an informational text about the festivities and their waste, on an A4 sheet placed here at the São Jorge Tourist Information Post, as well as an artistic installation with a set table, prepared to receive the typical soups, with the amount of wasted material highlighted on the tablecloth of the said table.
