Clothes “Repair Café”

INFO [what will be done]

Description:

We are opening a Repair Café at our hobby school for our local community members. Participants can bring in their broken, damaged, or ill-fitting favorite clothes to fix them on the spot. In this hands-on workshop, everyone will learn simple repair skills: mending holes with decorative stitching, sewing on buttons, embroidering, and altering garments for a better fit.

During the event, a small cafe will be open offering baked goods prepared by our students. To avoid disposable waste, all food and drinks will be served using real, reusable tableware. This activity teaches our community that fixing items is a creative way to protect the environment and buy less fast fashion.

Our workshop highlights key green principles:

Refuse: We say no to single-use plates and cups, throwing away fixable clothes, and buying cheap new garments.
Rethink: We learn to value, care for, and fix the things we already own.
Reduce: We cut down on trash by keeping clothes in use longer and avoiding disposable catering waste.
Reuse: We use washable plates and cups, and extend the lifespan of our clothing.
Repair: We actively fix damaged garments so they can be worn again.

Link to EWWR: This event helps clothes last longer and cuts down on overall waste through practical repair skills and eco-friendly catering.
