The annual\u00a0<\/strong>EWWR Awards Ceremony<\/a>\u00a0took place on 1 June in Dublin and revealed the names of the most outstanding awareness-raising actions on waste reduction implemented in November 2022.<\/strong>

Hugh Coughlan, Regional Coordinator at Dublin City council, Luca Menesini, member of the European Committee of the Regions, and Fran\u00e7oise Bonnet, Secretary General at ACR+, opened the ceremony and welcomed the 70 participants present in the hall, and the nearly 50 participants who followed the ceremony online, to this great celebration of the European Week for Waste Reduction. Maria L\u00f3pez Modesto, communications officer at MedWaves<\/a><\/ins>, introduced participants to the\u00a0Euro-Med Weeks for Waste Reduction<\/a>\u00a0(EMWWR) and presented the winners actions of this 1st edition of the EMWWR. Afterwards, we met the finalists and discovered the winners of the 2022 edition, as well as the next steps of the campaign. Finally, we presented the new thematic focus of the new edition: \u201cPackaging<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Six winners were awarded, one in each of the following categories: publication administration and organisation, business\/industry, association\/NGO, educational establishment, citizens, as well as a European Special Prize for the action that showcased the collaboration among European countries and regions, Catalonia, Balearic Islands and France in this case.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to act at the source, to avoid waste production, and this applies not only to textiles, but to all materials. Excessive waste generation is the real elephant in the room.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>Luca Menesini,\u00a0European Committee of the Regions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As a recognition, the winners received the EWWR trophies crafted in Dublin by\u00a0Rediscovery Centre<\/a>, the National Centre for the Circular Economy in Ireland. A creative movement connecting people, ideas and resources to support greener low-carbon living.<\/p>\n

For the third year in a row, the EWWR Secretariat awarded an additional action voted by those who attended the Ceremony in person and online. The best action for the EWWR audience will receive as a special prize a tree planted in an area experiencing the dangerous phenomenon of desertification, named after the winning action.<\/p>\n

It is a truly remarkable shift in our thinking and our approach to sustainable life living. Here are the winners of the EWWR 2022 per category:<\/h5>\n

\u2022 In the public administration and organisation <\/strong>category, the winner is the Bergische<\/span> Kost\u00fcmb\u00f6rse – Give your costume a 2nd session!<\/span><\/em><\/strong> implemented by Bergischer
\nAbfallwirtschaftsverband in Lindlar (Germany).<\/p>\n

\u2022 In the business\/industry<\/strong> category, the winner is RE-THEATER<\/strong><\/em><\/span> implemented by Kecskem\u00e9ti Katona J\u00f3zsef Nemzeti Sz\u00ednh\u00e1z in Kecskem\u00e9t (Hungary).<\/p>\n

\u2022 In the association\/NGO<\/strong> category, the winner is Fashion Forever Festival<\/strong><\/em><\/span> implemented by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.<\/p>\n

\u2022 In the educational establishment<\/strong> category, the winner is Acoustic Panels from recycled<\/em> material<\/strong><\/span>, implemented by St. George British International School in Leioa (Spain).<\/p>\n

\u2022 In the citizen(s)<\/strong> category, the winner is Repair Caf\u00e9 Talheim<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, implemented by District Office Heilbronn, waste management division in cooperation with the Citizens and LebensWerkstatt Talheim (Germany).<\/p>\n

\u2022 In the European special prize<\/strong> category, the winner is Eurotextil circular<\/strong><\/em><\/span>, implemented by Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean in Spain and France.<\/p>\n

\u2022 During the Ceremony, the audience selected Mar de Peces<\/strong><\/em><\/span> as The best action for the EWWR audience<\/strong>, implemented by CP Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, in Gij\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
