This year the focus is on <a href=\"https:\/\/ewwr.eu\/it\/thematic_focus\/circular-and-sustainable-textiles\/\">Circular and Sustainable Textiles<\/a>. Nevertheless, your action can address any sector of waste prevention.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food<\/strong> is another <strong>key sector<\/strong> in which many actions and initiatives could be implemented in terms of waste reduction. To inspire you, we present the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jedloniejeodpad.sk\/\">Slovak pilot<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodrus.eu\/\">FOODRUS<\/a> research project, focusing on <strong>bread and bakery waste<\/strong> in Slovakia. They are developing technological and social innovations that contribute to making bread waste socially unacceptable, and economically disadvantageous and reducing its impact on the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s stop for a moment and think about what food waste really means and what problems it brings with it. It has a strong impact both on us as humans and on our planet since it<strong> increases greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change<\/strong>. Changing the behavior of each individual is key, as <strong>households are the biggest food wasters<\/strong>. The reality these days is that food waste has become routine for many. We buy more food than we need, let it spoil at home, or take larger portions than we can eat. <strong>Now it&#8217;s up to us to change our habits<\/strong> so that not wasting food becomes our way of life!<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">LET&#8217;S STOP FOOD WASTE!<\/h5>\n<p>On the occasion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/events\/un-day\/international-day-awareness-food-loss-and-waste-2022\">International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste 2022<\/a>, the FOODRUS pilot in Slovakia has shared some simple tips that can help you fight food waste (and maybe shape your action):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Adopt healthier and more sustainable eating.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Buy only what you need<\/strong>. Plan your meals and avoid impulse purchases.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choose ugly fruit and vegetables<\/strong>. Don&#8217;t judge food by its appearance!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Store food wisely<\/strong>. Move older products to the front of the cupboard or fridge and new products to the back.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Understand food labeling<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Enjoy your leftovers<\/strong>. Use leftovers as ingredients for another dish.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Support local food producers<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Let your food waste live a dignified life<\/strong>. Instead of throwing food scraps away, compost them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Share groceries<\/strong>.
