#MissieMinder 2023 is the fourth edition of the yearly action day from MOS, Sustainable schools, Smart schools
(MOS is a ESD-programme of the Flemish Government, the 5 Flemish provinces and the Flemish Community Commission in Brussels. MOS supports schools -teachers and school leaders- free of charge, to create a sustainable learning and living environment in and around the school).

#MissieMinder 2023 focuses on gadgets, stuff.

The most important things in life are not things.
Many things we have, we don’t even really need. So why do we buy them? Producing and transporting all those gadgets requires a lot of raw materials and energy. All those gadgets also quickly disappear among the trash. They break down quickly, remain in the closet or we no longer like them and throw them away. A lot of energy is also needed to collect and process discarded items. We can do better, right? Will you join us on #MissionLess?

It is no coincidence that #MissieMinder takes place on Black Friday…
To make the link to Black Friday, we chose an image with “reduction/sales” on  the inspiring actions.

#MissionMinder is based on the ‘Piraminder’ of de Transformisten. This roadmap was designed by the American illustrator Sarah Lazarovic. She drew the “Buyerarchy Of Needs” for the fun book “A Bunch of Pretty Things I Did Not Buy”. Sarah made a Dutch version, which we called Piraminder.

Pira the rat is the “face” of #MissionMinder. For the youngest children, a short story is offered to introduce the action to them.

How can schools participate?

• Organise an action with your school, a class or a group of students. Get inspired by the actions on our “sales list” or come up with your own action. Register your action and win a nice prize.
• Make the action day visible at and around your school with our promotional material.
• Show that you participate by sharing the action on social media with the hashtag #MissieMinder.
