Talks and participatory cleanup of a natural environment
• WHAT will be done
Description:
During the weekend of November 23 and 24, a series of activities focused on waste prevention and reduction will take place, combining both awareness-raising and hands-on action.
As part of our environmental education and awareness efforts, thematic talks will be held to introduce the framework of the European Week for Waste Reduction. This framework serves to connect local and global impacts, showcasing the vast potential of coordinated actions across Europe to achieve a shared goal for the collective benefit. Emphasis will be placed on nature conservation and the role of citizen engagement, particularly through citizen science tools, in empowering individuals to become agents of change. Participants will learn to use these tools for waste quantification, and European projects focused on understanding and addressing waste issues—especially in coastal areas—will be presented. Attendees will also gain insight into how the City Council manages waste and will align with broader initiatives to reject unnecessary consumption that leads to waste, aiming for strict waste prevention at its source.
Additionally, we will share the successful experiences of a local association dedicated to the removal of accumulated waste, with representatives discussing how their volunteer efforts positively impact the environment.
Following this, on the 23rd and 24th of the month, two field excursions will take place to explore the local area, fostering discussions on the negative impacts of waste and strategies for prevention. Participants will engage in clean-up activities, working collaboratively to remove waste. The collected data will be quantified and submitted to citizen science platforms, with waste sorted for recycling.
We will dedicate considerable resources to engaging the broader community, aiming to make a meaningful impact on the local environment and inspire similar actions elsewhere through increased awareness and advocacy.
This action will be possible thanks to the support of Mi Pueblo Limpio and SEO/BirdLife.
