Zero Waste Kalkancı District
• WHAT will be done
Description:
The Zero Waste Kalkanca District project is a waste sorting and recycling initiative that will be implemented during the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). The project aims to achieve zero waste goals in the Kalkanca neighborhood of Samsun. It seeks to optimize the separation and recovery process of waste by ensuring effective coordination between waste producers (households, businesses), waste collectors, and recycling facilities.
Key actions within the project include:
- Setting up waste sorting stations throughout the neighborhood, categorizing waste into plastics, metals, glass, paper, and organic materials.
- Encouraging households and businesses to separate their waste properly.
- Training and informing waste collectors about designated collection days and procedures.
- Organizing public seminars and workshops to raise awareness about recycling and zero waste practices.
- Tracking and reporting the data on waste collected, recycling rates, and evaluating the project’s impact based on measurable outcomes.
- Promoting community participation by offering rewards based on the collective amount of waste recycled by the neighborhood.
This project aims to turn Kalkanca into a community that is environmentally conscious and to make it a local success story for the zero waste movement.
