From Leftovers to Lifelines: Reducing Food Waste, Feeding Lives
• WHAT will be done
Description:
We will produce a short video that illustrates the journey of surplus food from local shops to our homeless shelters. The video will show how food, which would otherwise be discarded as it begins to spoil, is collected by shop staff, packaged, and distributed to our shelters. At the YMCA Malta shelters, our staff provides this food to residents and service users, who then turn it into nutritious meals. The video will highlight multiple important issues, including reducing food waste while supporting those in need. Additionally, we will offer information in the form of digital posters for viewers interested in donating food to our shelters and drop-in centre, and provide practical tips on minimising food waste at home, along with advice on ensuring food safety. These will be posted on social media throughout the week dedicated to food waste reduction awareness.
This video will be shared across all our social media platforms, where we aim to reach over 9,000 individuals. We will also send the video to other YMCAs worldwide, encouraging them to share it on their platforms, helping us reach even more people, not just in Malta, but globally.
